A sitemap is a document that lists all the pages for your website on it.  When the programs or “bots” crawl your site to find out what’s on it, they look at this sitemap for information on what pages you have on your site to properly rank them when they are referenced outside your site and to make sure searchers to find the right page they are looking for based on what they are searching.
